Carly has over a decade of experience tutoring and teaching a wide range of subjects from middle school to college. She specializes in STEM teaching and tutoring, and is adept at designing experiences that allow learners to build confidence and connect with concepts on a foundational level. Her experience includes 12 years of tutoring and 6 years of combined middle and high school classroom teaching. She has also served as an educational leader in a range of contexts, including mentoring Teach for America Bay Area teachers, coaching teachers through completion of their New Teacher induction programs, and piloting and evaluating whole-district middle school science curriculum for Oakland Unified School District.
Carly has a B.S. in Environmental Sciences (Physical Sciences Concentration) and a Cal Teach Credential in Secondary Science Education from the University of California, Berkeley. She also completed a 2-year Teacher Induction Program at the San Francisco Exploratorium at the beginning of her teaching career. All of Carly’s science teaching training is focused on inquiry-based education, which emphasizes student-centered, exploratory learning.
When Carly is not teaching or designing content, she spends as much time as possible rock climbing, skiing, trail running, riding bikes, or simply being in the mountains! The mountains are foundational to her life and help her build the confidence and resilience to tackle her most important goals. Carly shares these aspects of her life with students in an effort to encourage them to also develop intentionally as humans beyond the classroom.
Hannah is an experienced, multi-faceted educator specializing in STEM education. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Health Sciences. Her undergraduate courses included advanced study in Calculus, Differential Equations, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, and more, so she is prepared and excited to help students tackle their most challenging coursework. Hannah has worked as both a one-on-one STEM tutor and classroom teacher in public schools in Orlando, Florida and Denver, Colorado. She has supported a wide-range of students, from small groups that needed urgent intervention to graduate high school, to students completing advanced chemistry and calculus work in pursuit of admission to the most competitive universities. She currently substitute teaches in Denver so she can keep her teaching skills sharp and a pulse on the complex challenges students face in the local public school system.
Hannah is passionate about helping students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and feel supported in their learning environments. She draws on her background and current work as a gymnastics and rock-climbing coach, as well as her love for math and science, to break down complex topics, remain patient, and be a positive, encouraging mentor. Outside of work, Hannah loves to climb, usually outdoors, as she explores all the amazing bouldering Colorado has to offer. She also hikes, does yoga, draws, and bakes. Hannah truly sets an example for students, encouraging them to find balance between school, work, and everything they enjoy outside the classroom.
